Justice Gerald R. P. Moir |
Gerald Moir was born in Halifax in 1951. He is a graduate of the Halifax school system, Saint Francis Xavier University, Dalhousie Law School, and the University of Ottawa. He practiced law at Halifax and Truro from 1977 until 1997 and developed a concentration in litigation related to insolvency law and commercial law. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1993 and a judge of the Supreme Court of Nova Scotia in 1997. For the trials of bringing up their five children, Justice Moir and his wife were rewarded with grandchildren. Four, so far.
Justice Moir is a member of the Steering Committee that, under Justice John M. Davison, has been guiding Nova Scotia towards new Rules since January 2004. In 2006 and 2007 Justice Moir has taken several leaves of absence to assist in drafting the new Rules. He and Mr. James Gregg, a Senior Solicitor with the Nova Scotia Department of Justice, are drafting the new Rules under instructions of sub-committees and the Steering Committee of the Nova Scotia Rules Project.
